Key ClubKey Club Members, plan for an important get together on Monday, March 25th

There will be a Key Club Meeting in room 174 on Monday, March 25th from 3:15-3:45 for all members! We will go over our remaining events, provide information on leadership roles and elections for next year, and pass out pins and certificates to members. Don’t miss this Monday get together.

 

Luggage for DCLuggage Drop Off for the Washington DC Trip is Tuesday, March 26th from 4:00pm-6:00pm

Luggage drop-off for all seniors attending the Washington, D.C. trip will be on Tuesday, March 26th from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in the AHS Community Room. All students attending the trip are required to drop off their luggage the night before the trip. Nothing should be brought with them on Wednesday. Please bring your suitcase, small carry-on and all medications with you on Tuesday. You will be expected to wait while your luggage is searched by a staff member. Any questions, see Ms. Malone or Mr. Henderson!

Avon's GSA is sponsoring "Be You!" Week. We want all students to celebrate what makes them unique! Stop by the commons during lunch periods to fill out a heart with something that makes you unique, and we'll create a rainbow of all the people in Avon High School.

 

 

Animal DonationsHelp Lorain County Friendship Animal Protective League and Dance Team with donations!

The AHS Dance Team is collecting donations for the Lorain County Friendship Animal Protective League. The APL is in need of items such as dog and cat food, blankets, toys, hand sanitizer, and paper towels. The donation box is located in the Commons. If you have any questions, please ask one of the AHS dance team members!

 

Washington DC CompositeSeniors, hopefully, you didn’t miss the deadline for Medication and Medication Forms for the DC Trip!

Seniors attending the Washington, D.C. trip, this is your reminder that all medication and medication forms need to be turned into Nurse Barb Smith so they can be checked in. Do you enjoys dancing? The AHS Eaglette Dance Team tryouts are quickly approaching. Students interested in being on the team, can pick up a flyer in the Administrative Office. Clinics and tryouts will be held at Avon Middle School the week of April 8th in the gym. Clinics will be on Monday, April 8th and Tuesday, April 9th from 3:45-5:30pm. Nature Center SnakeVolunteer at Lake Erie Nature and Science Center!

Do you like working with students in Grades 1-4? Here's a volunteer opportunity for you! The Lake Erie Nature & Science Center in Bay Village need volunteers ages 13-17 to read with students at our Wild Summer Reading Camp which takes place Mondays through Fridays, July 8th through August 2nd from 8:30am-11:30am and/or 12:30pm-3:30pm. Freaky Friday WordsAHS Drama Club presents its spring musical, Freaky Friday on March 22nd, 23rd and 24th

When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, Avon High School’s new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter. Performances are Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 24th at 2:00pm. Advanced tickets are sold online only at the Local Level link: https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/details/6619. Tickets are $8 for Seniors/Students/Children and $10 for Adults. Tickets at the door starting 45 minutes before show time are $10 for Seniors/Students/Children and $12 for Adults.

 

Doughnuts AAFriday, March 22nd is Doughnut Day!

NHS will be hosting a doughnut day in the morning on Friday, March 22nd before early bird and first period classes in the Commons. Stop over for a doughnut for just one dollar.

 

 

College FairCheck out the Cleveland National College Fair on Saturday, March 23rd

Representatives from approximately 200 two-year and four-year colleges, nursing schools, business schools and trade schools will participate in the Cleveland National College Fair which will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. BusinessThursday, March 29th is the deadline for Learn about Business summer camp applications.

Learning About Business (LAB) is a nonprofit organization that runs a week-long summer camp for sophomores and juniors to learn the basics of running a business from both the corporate and entrepreneurial perspectives. This experience will be held on the campus of Lake Erie College in Painesville from Sunday, June 9th through Friday, June 14, 2019. The cost for the camp is a $200. Check out the brocure in Student Services. Thursday, March 29th is your deadline.

 

AP signTaking an AP Exam this year? Save the date of April 17th.

All students that are signed up to take an AP exam this year must attend the pre-administration meeting on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:15am in the Auditorium. Students must bring a pencil and a hard surface to write on, like a notebook or textbook. The meeting will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Students will be excused from their Early Bird class but are expected to get missing work. If you have any questions, please see your counselor.

 

Color GuardColor Guard Try-Outs for the 2019/20 school year will take place on April 17th!

The Avon Mighty Eagle Marching Band will be holding its auditions for the 2019 Color Guard in April! Clinic dates to learn tryout routines will take place on Thursday, April 11th and Monday, April 15th from 6:00-8:30pm. Auditions will take place on Wednesday, April 17th 6-8:30 PM. All participants should wear all black, with no jeans. You do not currently have to be in band to join Color Guard. See Mr. Jacobs in Room 180 if you have any questions.

 

Dollar Sign ShinyApril 30th is the deadline for two Avon/Avon Lake VFW 7035 $1,000 scholarships.

The Avon/Avon Lake VFW 7035 is awarding (2) $1,000 scholarships. Applicants must be a current member, dependent or grandchild of a current member of the VFW Post 7035 Auxiliary. See Student Services for the application and additional details. The deadline is April 30th.

Attention Students! Are you interested in learning more about the application process for the Air Force, Military, Naval and Merchant Marine Academies? Unites States Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman are sponsoring informational sessions held across Ohio. Local seminars will be held on the following dates: Tuesday, April 9th at Mentor Public Library or Thursday, April 11th at Lakewood Public Library. College ScholarshipsCheck out the following scholarship opportunities available in Student Services and on Naviance

The Lebanese Syrian American Junior League is awarding (3) $1,000 scholarships to an academically outstanding young man and woman of Lebanese or Syrian descent residing in the Greater Cleveland Area. The student must be graduating in 2019 with a "B" or better scholastic average. See Student Services for the application and additional details. The application deadline is March 31st. The Lorain Soil and Water Conservation District is awarding a Joel McRoberts’ Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Students must be enrolled full time in an agricultural or natural resource related field for the fall quarter/semester of 2019 at a two year or four year college or university in Ohio, and must be a resident of Lorain County. A minimum of a 2.5 grade point average is required. See Student Services for the application, due April 19th.

Cleveland Clinic offers summer internship experiences that give Northeast Ohio high school students the opportunity to learn and work alongside world-renowned caregivers at Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus, Regional Hospitals, Family Health Centers and Administrative Campuses. Musical Notes RedAnnouncing Avon Choir and Drama Boosters Scholarships! Applications due April 8th

Avon High School Choir and Drama Boosters is offering two $500 scholarships for seniors attending a college / university next year. Applicants must be one of the following: a member in good standing of one of the A Capella groups at Avon High School, or currently enrolled in an Avon Choir maintaining at least a B in the class, or applicants can be an active member of Avon Drama Club Thespian Group #3229. If you’d like to apply, pick up your application in Student Services. This year’s application deadline is Monday, April 8th.

Disability AwarenessDisability Awareness Week begins at AHS soon!

Disability Awareness Week begins at AHS soon. This week, on Thursday, we’ll find out about Down Syndrome and on Friday, about Physical Disabilities. Beginning Monday, March 25th, AHS will start Spirit Week and will be collecting funds at the beginning of 5th period with Spirit Dress Up themed days! Monday, March 25th will be Pennies for Pajamas Day, and we’ll hear about visual impairments. Tuesday, March 26th, is Neon Nickels Day. Wear neon, or purple for epilepsy and we’ll learn about hearing impairments and Epilepsy. This is national Epilepsy day! Wednesday, March 27th will be Dazzling Dimes Day! Bring in dimes, dazzle us with fancy sparkles and listen to information on specific learning disabilities. Thursday, March 28th will be Quirky Quarters Day. Bring in quarters, dress in quirky mixed up clothing, and find out about emotional health. Friday, March 29th is Game Time for Special Olympics. Donate dollars and dress in your favorite Olympic, sporting event, or college gear. Show your support Milestones Autism Resources by bringing in your spare change and dressing up in our themes!

 

Autism Light It UpTuesday, April 2nd is International Autism Awareness Day!

Tuesday, April 2nd is International Autism Awareness Day! AHS, let’s Light it Up Blue on Tuesday, April 2nd to support those with autism. Wear blue clothing to show you support for Autism. You’ll even see blue food served in the cafeteria. Join in and celebrate International Autism Awareness Day.

 

 

College ToursColleges visit AHS on April 4th and 8th!

Canisius College and Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) are coming to Avon High School Student Services. Come visit with a college rep if you are interested in learning more about their school and to ask questions. Canisius is coming on Thursday, April 4th at 9:00am. SCAD is coming on Monday, April 8th at 12:30pm. Please sign up in advance in Student Services. A pass will be sent to you the morning of the visit. You are responsible for any missed work.
