AMS STUDENT SERVICES STAFF
Avon Middle School Student Services offices are conveniently located on the first floor in the center of the school facility. Students may visit the Guidance Counselors in Rooms 100C/D, the School Nurse in Room 100A, or the School Psychologist in Room100L.
The general goals of the guidance and counseling program are to...
help students understand themselves and others, and to assist them in building self-confidence and self-esteem.
prevent problems from developing through preventative counseling programs that stress early detection of learning and social adjustment problems.
coordinate efforts between students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
implement crisis intervention techniques when disputes with peers or teachers, personal problems, family difficulties, or other situations make a student unhappy.
provide career education activities that help students become more aware of their own skills, and teach them about the world of work.
develop personalized programs based upon each student’s abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and emotional and intellectual needs.
assist in identifying students with special needs, such as abused or neglected children, those with developmental difficulties, gifted children, etc.
give students an opportunity to talk about their education and personal-social concerns, and help students better adjust to their school and home environments.
help interpret test information about abilities, achievement, interests and needs.
Maria Enourato, M.A. ~ Guidance Counselor (students with last name A - K)
Maria Enourato moved from New Jersey to northeast Ohio in 2008 and joined Avon Local Schools in the summer of 2011 as an AMS Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Enourato obtained her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Delaware in Psychology and earned a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Georgian Court University. She is a member of the Lorain County Schools Crisis Counseling Team, the Lorain County Prevention Connection, and the Avon Schools Continuous Improvement Plan Committee.
Mrs. Enourato is very passionate about her work and seeks to help struggling students meet their optimal potential at school. She understands that middle school children need support, structure, and guidance with a listening ear. She seeks to reach all her students at AMS with a proactive, rather than reactive, approach.
Mrs. Enourato is married and has two children who attend the Avon schools. In her free time, She enjoys running, shopping, theater, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She is very happy to be a part of the Avon schools and having an opportunity to work with students and their families in the Avon community -- "Home of the Eagles!"
Becky Speicher, M.Ed. ~ Guidance Counselor (students with last name L - Z)
Becky Speicher joined Avon Local Schools in the summer of 2015. She studied psychology at the University of Dayton where she earned a Bachelor of Arts. Later she enrolled in the School Counseling program at John Carroll University where she received her Master in Education Degree. Mrs. Speicher is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Ohio School Counselor Association, the Lorain County Schools Crisis Counseling Team, and the Lorain County Prevention Connection.
Mrs. Speicher completed her field work in Westlake City Schools and Avon Local Schools. In 2014 she interned in Avon Middle School, working closely with the Guidance Department to master the programs and curriculum that the school offers to our students. She joined the AMS staff in 2015 and continues striving to reach students' needs through classroom guidance lessons, social groups, new student groups, and individual counseling.
Mrs. Speicher grew in northeast Ohio and lives in the area with her husband and their daughter. During her spare time, she enjoys live performances, traveling, shopping, reading, and spending time with family and friends. She is very happy to have the opportunity to work with students and their families in the Avon community. Go Eagles!
Susan Carroll Lebold, J.D., M.Ed. ~ School Psychologist
Susan Carroll Lebold joined the Avon Local School District in 2003 as a School Psychologist. Prior to entering the field of education, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University and a Doctorate of Juris Prudence from John Marshall School of Law. Mrs. Carroll Lebold also graduated from John Carroll University with a Master in Education. She is licensed in both school psychology and educational administration, and assists in overseeing the special education program at Avon Middle School.
Mrs. Carroll Lebold is a member of the National Association of School Psychologists and the Ohio School Psychologists Association. She was born and raised in Rocky River and attended Magnificat High School. She is married and has five children. During off-hours she enjoys reading, walking her dog, live theater, traveling, and visiting family and friends.
Susan Kuncel, L.P.N. ~ School Nurse
Susan Kuncel is our School Nurse who operates the Nurse Clinic five days a week (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) in Room 100A near the Main Office. Mrs. Kuncel is a Licensed Practical Nurse employed through Lorain County Public Health, located at 9880 Murray Ridge Road in Elyria (440-322-6367). She has 40 years of nursing experience working mainly in hospital settings.
Nurse Kuncel joined the Avon Local Schools team in 2015. She enjoys working with adolscents and advocating for the health and well-being of all AMS students. She is married with two children and one grandchild. In her spare time she enjoys gardening, hiking, raising dogs, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
