May at a Glance
May is our busiest month of the year!
If you are the parent of a junior or senior, then the most frequently used word in your home right now is PROM. Please help us help our young men and women harness all of their prom fears and phobias, dreams and expectations into a realistic night of fun and memories. Feeling like you have a Promzilla in your home? Encourage our teens to keep costs down, embrace their natural beauty, and plan a night that will yield a memorable evening. Prom is about celebrating with one’s classmates. Prom is to be an elegant dinner with an evening of dancing. (Yes- the administration will still be censoring dancing.) Prom does not need to cost a small business loan or be a nerve wracking evening with awkward date. Prom should be a celebration. Prom should be fun! This year’s prom will be on May 18th at Wagner’s.
May 7th through May 15th is the Advance Placement Exam cycle. Keep your AP student focused on their goal as well as tempering their tendency to stay up too late, cram, or eat poorly as they stress themselves out. We need our Eagles focused but healthy for testing.
The fine arts are at their best this month with several concerts offering a wide array of talent. Check out one of our many free concerts at the AHS auditorium:
- May 13th, AHS Choir Concert, 7:00pm
- May 15th, AHS Orchestra Concert, 7:00pm
- May 23rd, AHS Band Concert, 7:00pm
May 16th is our Senior Awards Night at Avon High School. All seniors and their families are welcomed to attend the event and those receiving honors will receive a special invitation. The program begins with a reception at 6:30pm in the AHS Commons. During this light appetizer reception, our AHS Art Department hosts an impressive Art Exhibit. The awards show begins promptly at 7:00pm. This distinguished evening is among the most impressive events of our school year.
Please come out and support the boys’ tennis teams, girls’ softball teams, the boys’ baseball teams, and our track teams. We have so many impressive spring athletes who deserve our attention and support.
Eagle Proud,
Mrs. Kristina Dobos Buller, Principal
