Katie Henes has spent her entire career in school finance. Her focus on becoming an optometrist changed after spending one summer working as an intern and account payable clerk with Clearview Local Schools where she learned about school treasury. Katie stuck with Clearview, and with finance, as she completed her internship and attended Ashland University, eventually earning a degree in accounting, finance and treasury. Katie began working as an treasurer's assistant for Olmsted Falls school district and further as an assistant treasurer for Ashland City Schools. Katie found her way to Elyria City Schools in 2004 where she worked as the assistant treasurer for 10 years. While serving in that capacity, she earned her Masters of Business Administration from Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and was promoted to treasurer in 2014. Katie and her family have strong educational roots and she has the utmost respect for educators. She values education and believes it is her role to help teachers make a difference in children's lives. She sets high standards in her department and instills a message of cooperation, accountability and transparency. Katie is the oldest of four girls. She loves to travel and has even gone on an African Safari. Her passion for fashion includes a love of jewelry, clothing, shoes and handbags. She has four nephews that light up her life and two labradoodles lovingly deemed, "the beastie boys." Family and friends are Katie's most valued assets, and redbirds, her grandmother's favorite feathered friend, hold a special place in her heart. She is very excited to be part of the Avon community and eager to get to help the schools continue to prosper and grow. Her door is always open so feel free to stop by and introduce yourself at any time!
